Murs: ForNever Interview pt. 2

(AllHipHop News) Los Angeles born and raised rapper Murs and Raleigh, North Carolina producer 9th Wonder are gearing up for what could be one of their most successful releases to date.

In what is widely regarded as their fourth release, ForNever is a 10 track album that features the assistance of Kurupt, Verbs, 9thmatic, Suga Free, Sick Wonder and Uncle Chucc.

“I try to combine everyone, so its not just Hip-Hop, or gangster rap or Latino rap or backpacker Hip-Hop. I just put them all on the same record and put my name on it,” Murs told AllHipHop.com. “I am all of that. It’s just like ‘lets rap’. Let make good music and to me it’s the album I always wanted to make. Its extremely West Coast, but its still real Hip-Hop because 9th Wonder gives it a traditional Hip-Hop bed or foundation.”

Many fans regard this as the pair’s fourth collaboration, due to the fact that the artists’ record labels were holding back the third project they worked in 2008, called Sweet Lord.

“I count it as the fourth,” Murs told AllHipHop.com. “This one was different. We did it in LA, we did it in Inglewood and we were on the West Coast. So I got to bring through my patnas and my homies and I was more in my element. Usually we are out East, where 9th records around Thanksgiving time.”

When asked about how the project came together, Murs stated that 9th always came with between 12-15 beats to choose from.

“From there we narrow it down, or he narrows them down. I definitely don’t pick any of them. I believe in letting the producer produce, so whatever he comes up with [that] sounds good. I never argue with him,” Murs revealed.

Murs has also announced that he will sell limited edition products through his new online store called MursWorld.com.

While users can immediately download the new ForNever album on the site, they can also purchase a deluxe package, that includes a Murs t-shirt, the physical CD, an immediate download of the new project, and the rare and unreleased DVD/CD, Murs for Dummies, of which the first 20 ordered will be autographed.
Murs recently finished up his Paid Dues 2010 festival in L.A., a festival that he has been putting together for the past 5 years featuring independent artists relevant in the Hip-Hop community, in association with Guerilla Union.

This year’s concert featured Ice Cube, Tech N9NE, Raekwon, Tha Dogg Pound, Jay Electronic, Freeway + Jake One, Dilated Peoples, Del tha Funky Homosapien, Strong Arm Steady, Necro, People Under the Stairs, and the legendary Freestyle Fellowship.

“This year I wanted to expand the brand and include West Coast legends,” Murs told AllHipHop.com. “In the end it’s what we grew up on. For us, Kurupt is just as dope as Rakim is to people in New York. “We all hear it coming out of the cars here. Big Daddy Kane and DJ Quik are the same to me. Why can’t they be on a Hip-Hop festival?”
